Sharp tactics or an own goal?

Well, another Premiership season is well and truly underway, with all the responsibilities of picking a team and the agonies and ecstasies of watching our players win or lose every week. No, sadly, we’re not talking about the real thing but the virtual world of fantasy football.
Obviously, depending on who’s fantasy football you sign up to there’s different rules but we’ve gone with the Sun Dream Team where you get £50 million to spend on 11 players. We’re also in a mini league with a load of other people, some friends and colleagues, and some strangers.
The interesting (and often annoying) thing is, watching people’s tactics. There’s the glory hunters (names withheld to protect the not so innocent but you know who you are) who’ve gone straight for four or five big names like Rooney, Lampard or Henry, whilst filling the rest of the places with footballing chaff. And then, there’s people like us, who’ve gone for strength and depth, with an equal balance of defence and attack. We’re also the ones who give the up and coming stars and lesser well known names a chance to shine and it’s a strategy that paid off last year. (Who would’ve thought Darren Bent and Marlon Harewood would’ve been on the list of top strikers for instance).
It’s kinda like us really, and the whole process of choosing an agency.
There’s lots of big players out there but it doesn’t mean to say that you can’t discover a superstar perfecting their ball skills in a smaller agency, and they’re the ones that usually surprise you (aka Dean Ashton). Quick off the ball, quick on their feet and quick to score, striving to take their team to the top. After all, some star players think they’re bigger than their club…need we say more!
Anyway back to the Dream Team, where we’re currently around mid-table…with names like Shevchenko playing side by side Akinbiyi.
So if you’ve any gems of footballing genius you’d like to share with us, let us know, we’ve got transfers in October and we’re always on the look out for a great new signing. After all, the Walcott’s of today could be the Beckham’s of tomorrow…
These pearls of footballing wisdom have been brought to you by Stephanie and Natalie aka Hanson and Shearer.
